How to keep an answered prayer journal
Unrecorded prayers have a strange fate: the urgent ones fade, and the answered ones get quietly re-labeled as coincidence. A written record fixes both. You pray more honestly when the request is on the page, and you trust more deeply when you can see what God has already done.
Why write prayers down at all
Memory is a bad historian of faith. Six months from now you will not remember what you were desperate about today — which means you'll also miss the moment it resolves. Israel stacked memorial stones for exactly this reason: so a visible marker would keep telling the story after the feeling faded. A prayer journal is memorial stones in ink.
Keep the format almost embarrassingly simple
- One line per request. Date, the thing itself, plainly stated. Not an essay.
- Review briefly, weekly. Scan the open requests once a week — it doubles as a prompt for what to keep praying.
- Mark answers when they come. The mark matters more than the wording. An "answered" list you can reread is the single most faith-strengthening document you'll own.
- Include the unanswered. Honest records include the waiting. Those entries teach their own lesson later.
Paper or app?
Paper works until you're away from the notebook — which is most of the moments prayers actually happen. A phone journal is always with you, searchable, and can sit inside the same flow as your daily prayer. The one non-negotiable if you use an app: privacy. Prayer requests are among the most sensitive things you could write. They should be stored on your device, not on someone's server, and never mined for advertising.
How it works in Guided Prayer
Requests live in a private journal stored on your device — they never leave it. Mark any entry answered and it joins your answered archive; recent answers stay visible on the free plan (a 30-day window), and Pro keeps the full archive in reach. Milestones become memory stones — a small cairn that grows as journeys complete and streaks lengthen — with your journal entries from those days beside them.
A journal that stays yours
Private, on-device prayer requests. Answered markers. Memory stones for the milestones. No ads, no ad tracking — your prayers are not data.
